52 People Killed by Suspected Militants, shutdown called in Assam

Guwahati: On Tuesday at least 52 people were killed in a series of attacks made by suspected Bodo militants in Assam.

According to police, “Men, women and children were shot dead with AK-47 bullets in five consecutive attacks.”

“While 35 people were killed in the Sonitpur district, 14 were shot dead in Kokrajhar. 10 women and 13 children are among the dead,”added police.

Those, who were killed were mostly tribals who worked in tea gardens in the region.

Taking note of the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed an "act of cowardice", while President Pranab Mukherjee in tweet has said, "Such acts of terror and violence must be put down with a firm hand."

Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit the state today.
