CBI raids at Medical Council of India offices
  • 5 years ago
CBI raids against Medical Council of India (MCI) officials, in Delhi’s Dwarka, come at a time when the statutory body has already lost its pre-eminent position as a statutory body “responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of medical education” in India.

This is not the first time that the CBI has moved against alleged corrupt practices by MCI officials. In March, the central anti-corruption agency busted a major medical degree racket, arresting eight persons, including seven doctors, who were part of a network which acted in cahoots with MCI officials who allegedly sold certificates to students who had earned medical degrees from China.

In April 2010, the CBI arrested the then MCI president Ketan Desai for accepting Rs 2 crore as bribe to ignore Gyan Sagar Medical College in Patiala which wanted to enrol more students than its capacity would permit.
