On onion prices and general inflation, Modi said the UPA had ignored simple and scientific suggestions he and others in the BJP had made, removing onions from the Essential Commodities list and then refusing to consider the possibility of splitting the Food Corporation of India into three arms for acquisition, storage and distribution respectively. "These suggestions were never considered, with the result that onion prices continue to fluctuate."
