NewsX : 'Textbook' scam hits Madras University, buys 10,000 books for 100 students

Another scam is emerging from the cellars of University of Madras, this time for buying 5,000 to 10,000 copies of some textbooks for courses that don't have more than 100 students a year.

Most of the study materials bought at more than Rs 5 crore during the tenure of G Thiruvasagam are lying idle or being eaten by moths. The Institute of Distance Education (IDE) has purchased nearly 50,000 books from two Delhi-based publishers in November last. University syndicate has refused to approve the payment of the bill.
