NewsX : 'End wrongful minority arrests' says Shinde

Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde has written to all states and Union territories to "ensure that no innocent Muslim youth is wrongfully detained in the name of terror", sparking off outrage in the BJP over his "anti-secular and divisive" move.
Shinde, in his letter to chief secretaries of all states and UTs sent on Monday, wrote that "the Central government has received several representations alleging harassment of innocent Muslim youth by law enforcement agencies. Some of the minority youths have started feeling that they are deliberately targeted and deprived of their rights".
Confirming that he had signed the letter, which asks the states to fast-track terror cases featuring Muslim youth as accused and provide legal aid to undertrials belonging to the minority community, on Sunday, the home minister said he had decided to "write to the states after several NGOs and civil rights activists approached me alleging wrongful detention of innocent Muslim youth in terror cases".

An incensed BJP alleged that Shinde was attempting to divide the country on communal lines and demanded that he be sacked immediately.
