One of the tragedies of cyclone Nilam was around oil tanker MT Pratibha Cauvery that ran aground within 50 metres off the Besant Nagar Beach. Reports say the captain of the oil tanker ordered sailors to abandon ship after the vessel lost anchor. But the lifeboat carrying 22 sailors to the shore overturned in the choppy waters. Fishermen roped in for rescue work have only found 16 of them. The Navy, Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for the remaining six crew members.
