Saradha scam: Supreme Court orders CBI probe

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered a CBI probe into the Saradha chit fund scam in West Bengal and numerous other ponzi schemes in Odisha and Assam. The top court said that the cases were being transferred from the states to the CBI considering the "magnitude of the scam".
The Saradha chit fund reportedly swindled investors of Rs 2,500 crore. Sudipta Sen, chairman of the now defunct ponzy scheme company, was sentenced by a Kolkata court to three years in jail. Suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh is also alleged to be involved in it.
