Trump Revives 'Rampant' Voter Fraud Claim Citing Texas Data

President Trump on Sunday again made the claim that there's "rampant" voter fraud in the country.
President Trump is once again claiming that "voter fraud is rampant."
He tweeted Sunday: "58,000 non-citizens voted in Texas, with 95,000 non-citizens registered to vote. These numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. All over the country, especially in California, voter fraud is rampant. Must be stopped. Strong voter ID!"
The president referenced Fox News which reported on the Texas attorney general Ken Paxton's announcement that "the state has discovered 95,000 non-citizens on the voter rolls going back to 1996, 58,000 of whom have voted in at least one Texas election."
Paxton, a conservative, has said he is willing to prosecute such cases and cited previous successful convictions related to voter fraud.
However, the Texas Tribune points out that, based on the method used, "It's possible that individuals flagged by the state could have become naturalized citizens since they obtained their driver's license or ID card."
And a New York Times report about the attorney general says Democrats and others are not convinced of the findings, in part, due to voter suppression efforts.
Nevertheless, the attorney general's finding will likely boost Trump's repeated claims of voter fraud.
The president said last year: "In many places the same person in California votes many times. They always like to say, 'Oh that's a conspiracy theory.' It's not a conspiracy theory. Millions and millions of people and it's very hard because the state guards their records."
That said, a commission he launched to look into voter fraud was disbanded with no material findings of such activity.
