Sixteen-year-old Sammie attends a welfare-sponsored after-school Jesus Camp while her pill-popping, alcoholic mother Marlene goes on crime sprees. As they wait for Sammie’s father to get out of prison, Sammie is drawn into the family con business to make ends meet. When Sammie’s father fails to show up after his release, Marlene’s desperate mission to find someone who loves her sends her into a downward spiral. Mother and daughters’ shared fascination with death, the dire situation, and one last high-risk con leads to a roller coaster night as Sammie takes matters into her own hands to help Marlene find freedom…and ultimately free herself.
