Colorado Baker Who
Refused Gay Couple a
Wedding Cake Is Back in Court Lawyers for Denver baker
Jack Phillips argued in federal
court on Tuesday that the state
of Colorado is punishing him. They claim the state is
being hostile with Phillips
because of his Christian faith. They are seeking $100,000 in
punitive damages for Phillips
over violations of his First and
Fourteenth Amendment rights. In 2012, Phillips was
first sanctioned by
the Colorado Civil
Rights Commission In June of this year, the
Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that
the commission showed anti-
religious bias in sanctioning him. In a separate case, the
Colorado commission says Phillips
discriminated against a Denver
attorney because she's transgender. Phillips refused to make
Autumn Scardina a cake
in celebration of her
gender transition.
