Pyeongyang Declaration ratified during Cabinet Meeting Tuesday

The presidential office has approved the inter-Korean agreement made during the third Moon-Kim summit last month,… during its weekly Cabinet meeting this morning.
For the latest update, we go live to our Shin Se-min at the presidential office for us.
Se-min, tell us more.

Yes. That wide-ranging peace agreement reached between the two Koreas has been deliberated and ratified by the president and his Cabinet members.
This is what President Moon said this morning.

"The (ratification) will help catalyze the process of complete denuclearization by bettering inter-Korean relations and easing military tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Not only will it secure the safety of our people, it will also help improve our economy as it rids the peninsula of such critical situations."

He added that the ratification of the inter-Korean agreement will first and foremost benefit residents living near the border area of the two Koreas,… as they had been disadvantaged the most by having to put up with military tensions near their homes.
To give you some background,… the move today comes as the Ministry of Government Legislation had said that the Pyeongyang Joint Declaration does not need parliamentary approval for ratification as the overreaching agreement,.. the Panmunjeom Declaration reached from the April’s summit is already being reviewed by the parliament.
As the agreement made last month is designed to carry out April’s Panmunjeom Declaration... the parliamentary approval of the broader Panmunjeom deal would cover all subsidiary agreements.
The Pyeongyang Joint Declaration covers deals from April,… and calls for economic and humanitarian cooperation and exchanges between the two sides.
And the military agreement calls on both Koreas to cease all hostile acts against each other... including suspending military exercises near the border area.
