DIZZY GILLESPIE QUINTET ON BBC JAZZ 625 (1966)
Dizzy Gillespie Quintet at their absolute peak come shining through in this beautifully-restored high-quality recording of the entire show.

Dizzy’s playful sense of humor is legendary. Dizzy loved to joke on-stage and this performance has several examples of his playful relationship with the band, especially James Moody, who played with him in almost all the bands Dizzy lead, right up until he passed away.

Jazz 625 was a landmark in music programming, broadcast during BBC2's first two years (1964-1966). While American stars like Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and Dizzy Gillespie were showcased, the programme also recorded British talent like Johnny Dankworth and Tubby Hayes.
