Trump: Obama Had The 'Worst' Economic Comeback Since Great Depression
  • 6 years ago
President Trump on Wednesday again went after former President Obama.

President Trump on Wednesday suggested that his predecessor did a poor job at pulling the country out of the Great Recession.  After noting that the Federal Reserve's interest rate increase is "nice" for "the people that were hurt the worst by these zero interest rates," he commented, "When President Obama had an economy that was — it was the worst comeback since the Great Depression and all that — you've all heard that."  "But remember, he was playing with zero-interest money," Trump further remarked. "He was playing with funny money. That's easy. I'm playing with fairly expensive money." It's not unusual for Trump to claim credit for the nation's currently strong economy, and that has been noted by his predecessor.  Former President Barack Obama said during a recent campaign event, "When you hear these folks bragging about this 'economic miracle,' just remember when it started."  "When you hear about this economic miracle that's been going on, when the job numbers come out, monthly job numbers, suddenly Republicans are saying it's a miracle," Obama also noted. "I have to kind of remind them, actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016."  Notably, according to a piece by NPR, both presidents have contributed to the current state.  The media outlet reports that Trump has certainly achieved "yardsticks that indicate a meaningful turnaround on [his] watch — including small business sentiment, business investment and goods-producing job growth" but notes that "the overall job market and wages show the economy continues to follow the steady, upward glide path that began under Obama."
