Fire Ants Clump and Float to Survive Florence Floodwaters

A colony of fire ants, or red-colored stinging ants, were observed on September 16 engaging in a survival tactic post-Hurricane Florence where they bunch together to create a raft to float on top of the water to protect the queen.News reports warned that the presence of these ant rafts, often consisting of tens of thousands or more ants, presented a particular hazard for humans trying to navigate flooding.
