Oldest Pine Tree in Baguio Destroyed in Landslide Caused by Mangkhut

A pine tree in the Philippines city of Baguio estimated to be more than 200 years old was destroyed in a landslide on Saturday, September 15, after Typhoon Mangkhut, known locally as Ompong, made a landfall in northern Luzon.The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said an estimated 5.2 million people were within 77 miles of the projected path of Mangkhut.More than 15,000 people from 10 provinces were evacuated on Friday, September 14, NDRRMC said.Mangkhut, said to be the biggest storm on this planet so far in 2018, was expected to hit Hong Kong and southern China in the following days.
