ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Saqib Nisar remarked on Tuesday that Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) should be utilized in accordance with the law.

The hearing of Workers Welfare Fund was held in the Supreme Court of Pakistan under the supervision of Chief Justice Nisar who observed that the government is not contributing in the fund, as per the complaints of WWF officials.

Additional Attorney General (AAG) apprised the court that Finance Ministry has to submit its response on the matter, the rejoinder which had been received from the ministry, so far, is inadequate.

On which, the top judge stated that the WWF should be utilized as per the law.

“Before 18th amendment in the constitution, the funds were the responsibility of the federal government, but now the provincial government takes care of it,” AAG informed.

The money is channelized from provinces to the Finance Ministry, he added.

Later, the apex court directed all four provinces to submit a detailed response in the case while ordering advocate generals of four provinces to appear in the cases pertaining to the human rights.

The hearing was adjourned till Monday.

Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) was established under Workers Welfare Fund Ordinance, 1971 for providing low cost housing and other amenities to the industrial labour. Initial Contribution of Rs.100 (M) was made by the Federal Government and the further resources were to be raised by the private sector.
