BabyX, the lifelike virtual infant from the New Zealand-based research group Soul Machines, has one goal - to humanize artificial intelligence (AI). Soul Machines develops robots that mimic not only human gestures but also the way humans function. Soul Machines is now building “biologically inspired models of the human brain”. It uses the concepts of neural networks and machine learning to build a virtual nervous system. When their autonomous virtual infant smiles, it's not because of some code that directs it to do so - it’s actually in reaction to virtual dopamine and endorphins.
