Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake Rattles Sapporo Hotel

Millions of homes were left without power on Japan’s northern Hokkaido island when a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck early on Thursday, September 6.NHK reported 48 people were injured when the quake struck in the early hours of Thursday morning. About 2.95 million homes lost electricity while the quake also triggered landslides in Atsuma, Yufutsu District, and caused roads and homes to collapse in the Kiyota Ward of Sapporo.The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Atsuma, a city about 15 miles southeast of Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.This video shows the impact of the earthquake on a hotel in Hokkaido’s capital, Sapporo.
