Basically the year goes like this:

1.18.1964- First time Beatles appears on the chart
1.25.1964- First time Beatles appears on the top 10.
2.1.1964- First number one single by the Beatles.
4.4.1964- The Beatles occupy the first 5 positions of the Hot 100. They also become the first to have 3 songs in a row hit number one.
4.11.1964- Beatles occupy 14 positions on the Hot 100, unprecedented for its time.

They end this year by holding the top two positions of the Year-End chart and 4 in the top 15.

Basically, if you weren't the Beatles, what were you doing on the Hot 100? Flooding the market with singles and being able to promote the hell out of them wins big time.

One notable exception is the legendary Louie Armstrong, who possibly kept the whippersnappers from taking number a fourth time and in doing so becoming the oldest solo artist to have a No. 1 hit.

Also, note the R&B groups Supremes and Temptations make their start on this list. This is generally when being in a group, and specifically a British group, starts paying off. It's the start of a British Invasion, full of artists whose songs will probably be mistaken for being by the Beatles.
