61-Year-Old Man
Escapes Shark Attack
by Punching Its Gills William Lytton was swimming
in about "8 to 10 feet" of water
off Cape Cod, MA., on Aug. 15. While swimming, Lytton felt an incredible pain shoot through his left leg and quickly realized
that it was a shark. Almost immediately, Lytton punched
the shark in the gills with his left hand. William Lytton, via 'The Boston Globe' After breaking free from the shark's grip, Lytton made his way to shore
while shouting for help. Beach goers helped to carry him to the parking lot and stop the bleeding. He was then airlifted to Tufts Medical Center. William Lytton, via 'The Boston Globe' Lytton was in a two-day coma,
had six surgeries and needed
almost 12 pints of blood. The type of shark that attacked him
is unknown, but experts are leaning
toward a great white shark, as
they are prominent in the area. William Lytton, via 'The Boston Globe'
