Storm sirens were sounded off at Waikiki Beach on August 23 to warn locals and tourists of Hurricane Lane's movement closing in on Big Island.

In the video, sirens can be heard ringing on the busy beach. This was filmed at around 1 pm that day.

Hurricane Lane, forecast to make landfall in the state, lashed the Big Island with nearly 20 inches of rain in 24 hours. Shelters were opened up on Big Island and in Maui, Molokai and Lanai to house evacuated residents.

The hurricane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm later in the day.
