Typhoon Soulik sweeping across central city of Daejeon

We start with Typhoon Soulik which made landfall in mainland Korea late last night.
The system --- which is weakening -- is moving in a northerly direction at a speed of 30 kilometers an hour from the Jeolla-do Provinces to the Chungcheong-do Provinces,... and is now sweeping across the central city of Daejeon.
That's where our Choi Si-young is for us this morning.
Si-young, it's still relatively calm here in Seoul... which is 140 kilometers north of where you are, but how's the weather looking down there?

Well, Mark.
As we speak, the eye of Typhoon Soulik is passing through the southern districts of Daejeon.
As you can see, it's only raining lightly here right now,... and wind is weak.
But a typhoon warning is STILL in place.
The weather agency forecasts up to 120 millimeters of rainfall in the area.

All kindergartens and elementary schools in the city are shutting down for one day today, including the special school for the underprivileged.
In nearby Chungcheongnam-do Province, about 90 schools are closed for the day,... middle and high school students are likely to go to school later than usual.

The typhoon's trajectory has shifted from its earlier projection.
After hitting Daejeon, Soulik will pass Chungju at around 9 a.m. and Gangneung at around noon before exiting the nation.

I will keep you posted throughout the day. Back to you, Mark.
