The Boston Globe is spearheading a campaign to get other newspapers throughout the country to speak out against President Trump's condemnation of the media, reports Fox News.
According to CNN, the Globe has contacted numerous editorial boards with a message that states, in part, "We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 on the dangers of the administration's assault on the press and ask others to commit to publishing their own editorials on the same date."
The appeal is being made to outlets regardless of political leanings, and the Globe has already recognized that the resulting editorials will be diverse, saying in its pitch, "Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming."
Marjorie Pritchard, the Globe's deputy editorial page editor, indicated to the Associated Press that the decision to push for a coordinated effort came after several recent instances where Trump publicly blasted the media--for example, on August 2, calling it "fake, fake disgusting news."
Pritchard has told CNN that, as of Saturday, more than 100 publications have agreed to participate in the campaign and more are expected to join.
