President Trump on Friday thanked Kanye West for his willingness to "tell the truth."

Kanye West defended his support for President Trump during an appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Thursday.
In response, Trump took to Twitter Friday late afternoon and thanked West for his willingness to "tell the truth."
"Thank you to Kanye West and the fact that he is willing to tell the TRUTH," Trump wrote. "One new and great FACT - African American unemployment is the lowest ever recorded in the history of our Country. So honored by this. Thank you Kanye for your support. It is making a big difference!"
West told Kimmel on Friday it took him a year and a half to have the confidence to publicly express his support for Trump, but suggested it was more about his contrarian streak rather than Trump's policies.
"When I see people just even like go at the president, it's like why not try love," West added.
However, a follow-up question by Kimmel left West silent.
"You so famously and so powerfully said, George (W.) Bush doesn't care about black people. It makes me wonder what makes you think that Donald Trump does or any people at all?" Kimmel asked.
West was speechless at that moment before Kimmel went to a commercial break.
"Asked to defend Trump as president, West had no response," Philip Bump of the Washington Post said about the exchange.
