Assam NRC: In 2005, Mamata didn’t want illegal Bangladeshi immigrants
  • 6 years ago
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is batting for Bangladeshi immigrants over the National Citizen Registry (NRC) that leaves out about 40 lakh people living in Assam. But as a Opposition leader in 2005 she actually didn’t want illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Back then in 2005 she chucked a pile of papers in Lok Sabha at the Speaker when she wasn’t allowed to speak on the topic of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. She accused the CPI-M, which was in power in the state then, of benefitting from providing patronage to illegal Bangledeshi immigrants.
Over this week Mamata has warned of a “civil war and bloodbath” over the Assam citizen list that doesn’t include the names of about 40 lakh residents currently living in Assam.
