New Tapes Reveal Donald Trump Discussing Payments to Playboy Model President Trump’s longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, secretly recorded a conversation with Trump two months before the 2016 presidential election. In the tapes, they discussed payments to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump. The F.B.I. seized the recording this year during a raid on Mr. Cohen’s office. The Justice Department is currently investigating Cohen’s involvement in paying women to tamp down embarrassing news stories about Trump ahead of the election. McDougal has claimed she began a nearly yearlong affair with Trump in 2006, shortly after his wife, Melania, gave birth to their son Barron.
