The U.S. military has sent a hundred temporary caskets to the inter-Korean border to repatriate the remains of American soldiers killed in the Korean War.
U.S. Forces Korea confirmed the wooden caskets were taken to the Joint Security Area at the border village of Panmunjom on Saturday, along with the United Nations flags and supports to carry the caskets.
Pyongyang is expected to hand over the remains in the next few days, where they will be sent to Osan Air Base, and transferred to metal caskets before being returned to the U.S.
The repatriation of the remains was one of the key pledges made in the June 12th declaration that was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un after their summit in Singapore earlier this month.
