According to a report by CNN, five female anti-trafficking activists were gang-raped in the eastern state of Jharkhand, the same region of India where two teens were raped and then set on fire last month.
Amol Homkar, deputy inspector general of police in Jharkhand's capital, Ranchi said that the five women and three men were performing a street play on the issue of human trafficking when they were abducted by armed men on motor bikes. The activists were taken to a nearby forest where they were raped and the men were beaten before finally being released around three hours later. Authorities said that as many as nine people had been brought in for questioning in relation to the horrific crime.
