LOS ANGELES — Tesla was on fire over the weekend after a video of Tesla Model S bursting into flames for no apparent reason went viral last Friday.

According to the Washington Post, the clip was posted on Twitter by actress Mary McCormack, who said it was her husband's.

In a since deleted tweet, McCormack said, "this is what happened to my husband and his car today. No accident, out of the blue, in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd."
Tesla said the video looked like a battery fire and that car blazes are an "extraordinarily unusual occurrence."
According to a Tesla spokesman, "our initial investigation shows that the cabin of the vehicle was totally unaffected by the fire due to our battery architecture, which is designed to protect the cabin in the very event that a battery fire occurs."
