Council refuse to pick up their own bin due to health and safety

An elderly couple were gobsmacked to learn that a small box containing their waste paper could not be emptied with their recycling bin because of HEALTH AND SAFETY. Charles Whiston, 63, and his wife Linda, 67, have branded Birmingham City Council as “loopy” for claiming workers are not allowed to lift the little plastic tub which
was provided by the council, in case it causes them an injury. The
couple, who accumulate a lot of paper and cardboard for recycling,
always leave any extra waste in the additional container and put it
out on alternate Wednesdays. But after this rubbish was ignored by
the bin men on their last two trips, Charles rang the council to ask
them why it had been left. He was staggered to hear that workers
collecting the recycling had been told they could not lift anything,
using the excuse of “health and safety”.
