How to Make Ballistic Gel

Homemade ballistic gel can help you evaluate bullet and pellet penetration and performance. Those new expensive duck loads that say they’re “25% more effective” than the cheaper boxes? Ballistic gel helps you test that claim. Here’s a simple way to make your own. The size of blocks I made in this video are fine for shotguns and rimfires. But if you wanted to test centerfire rifles, you’d have to increase the recipe (probably by triple) until you had enough gel to actually stop the bullet.
