is considering to launch the 5th generation Jimny in India. However, we are yet to confirm whether the Suzuki Jimny will replace the legendary Gypsy in India or will be launched as the new Maruti Gypsy. That said, Suzuki is yet to officially showcase the Jimmy to the world, which is expected to be showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Ahead of its global debut, the car has been spied testing on numerous occasions, while design sketches and brochure scans have been leaked as well. The Suzuki Jimny will first be launched in Japan followed by launch in other international markets. The car is expected to be launched in India by end 2018 or early 2019. Unlike new Suzuki cars, the Suzuki Jimny will continue to be a ladder on frame construction. Upfront, the car will sport a hexagonal front grille with round headlamps and auxiliary fog lamps. The car sports a minimalist front bumper while the sides get a protruding wheel arches and a flat roofline. The will be available in a 3-door layout and is expected to get chunky 17-inch wheel arches. Moving to the rear, the car will get a flat tailgate with the spare wheel mounted on it. That said, the minimalist rear bumper will house the taillights and the turn indicators.
Recent reports suggest that the Suzuki Jimny will be powered by a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-charged petrol engine in addition to a 1.2-litre K12B naturally-aspirated petrol unit. The BoosterJet engine is capable of pumping out 110 BHP of max power and 170 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the 1.2-litre engine produces 91 BHP of power and 120 Nm of peak torque. Both these engines will come mated to a close-ratio 5-speed manual gearbox, while and automatic transmission will be available as an option. The car will also come equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD system as standard.
