White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday mentioned 'The Apprentice' while defending President Trump against accusations of racism.  "Frankly, if the critics of the president were who he said he was, why did NBC give him a show for a decade on TV?" Sanders told reporters. The Trump-hosted competition no doubt had a good run and was quite popular for a time. However, it is unclear if the show will be enough to stem the tide of criticism that's followed Trump's alleged "shithole" comment.  The Washington Post notes that the word is said to have been used during an immigration meeting with lawmakers and in regard to Haiti and nations on the African continent.  A number of people have since called Trump a racist.
In an interview with ABC News' 'This Week' on Sunday with George Stephanopoulos, Democratic Representative John Lewis said while the U.S. has made "so much progress" on race in the past decades, Trump "is taking us back to another place."
When Stephanopoulos asked, "do you think President Trump is a racist?" Lewis responded, "I think he is a racist."
