2 Las Vegas hotel security guards shot to death

The string of holiday season killings in the Las Vegas Valley continued Saturday morning when two security guards were gunned down inside a hotel room at Arizona Charlie's Decatur hotel-casino. The killings at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur marked the fourth double homicide and the fifth multiple homicide investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department this month. Since Dec. 22 alone, Metro has investigated 12 homicides, all but one resulting from gun violence. “People are too quick to go to guns,” Metro homicide Capt. Robert Plummer told reporters Wednesday night. Saturday’s double homicide brings the total number of homicides investigated by Metro so far this year to 168, which excludes the 58 killed in the Route 91 Harvest festival mass shooting Oct. 1. This year’s number ties the record of 168 set in 2016 for homicides in Metro’s jurisdiction. Ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebration on the Strip, Plummer reassured the public the shooting was an isolated incident. “I want you to know right now that this has nothing to do with terrorism,” he said matter-of-factly as he stood outside the hotel-casino Saturday morning. “This is something that happened prior to officers arriving.”
