Excerpts of Michael Wolff's forthcoming book 'Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House' were published by various outlets on Wednesday and met with scrutiny about whether the explosive reports and quotes could possibly be true.
According to Axios, Wolff has recordings of numerous conversations with various sources.
They reportedly include interviews with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and former deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh.
The book at large is said to be a result of over 200 interviews conducted over a period of 18 months, including some with President Trump and his top aides.
When asked about Trump's assertion that the entire book is a work of fiction, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders acknowledged that Wolff and Trump spoke once over the phone and stressed, "That's the only interaction that the President has had with Michael Wolff since he took office."
"I know that the book has a lot of things, so far of what we've seen, that are completely untrue," she also commented. "You have many people that have quotes that are sourced to them that are now coming out publicly and saying that those things are not true."
Among the content challenged is an assertion that first lady Melania Trump, had been assured that her husband would not win the 2016 election, and states then when he did, "Melania was in tears—and not of joy."
The New York Magazine reports that Wolff also writes that Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, has ambitions to become the country's first female president and quotes Bannon as calling the 2016 Trump tower meeting with Russians as "unpatriotic" and "treasonous."
