Turkey was the nation that came out of the dismenbered Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was the longest lasting empire that the earth had seen, lasting from 1299 to 1923. It had been in decline ever since the 17th century, lossing land to Russia, Austria, Persia, and colonial powers. After winning their independence in 1923, Turkey did it's best to recover from the 11 years of constant war. Turkey joined the League of nations in 1932 and was one of the 50 starting members of the United nations.
