Country Getaways in Ontario: Landfall Farm B&B

Finally another chance to get out of the city! Given the high gas prices currently I thought let’s find a nice getaway for the July 12, 2008 weekend within less than an hour of Toronto, and guess what – I found one. Just about 80 km northeast of Toronto, close to Port Perry, I located a beautiful historic bed and breakfast called Landfall Farm. Located in a beautiful fieldstone farmhouse that dates back to 1868, Landfall Farm B&B offers 3 bedrooms of which one features an ensuite bathroom. My room was a spacious queen size bedroom that featured a dressing room, sitting area and desk. The house’s design is unique, the décor is a mix of antique and contemporary and the highlight are two beautiful Gothic windows in the main bedroom and the hallway. The front of the houses features an antique store called “The Front Room”. The outside is equipped with an enclosed porch, several beautiful sitting areas and a pool. In addition, the 20 acre property features historic barns and a secluded pond surrounded by lawn chairs. The owner herself, Merle Heintzman, is an interesting story as well: at 88 years of age she has been running this B&B for almost 30 years. As a trained nurse, she worked as a flight nurse during WWII, attending to injured soldiers on the battlefields of France during D-Day. Despite some recent health problems, Merle does a great job running her B&B and gets around her expansive property in a golf cart. Landfall Farm is a great getaway from Toronto, and its proximity to the pretty town of Port Perry and Lake Scugog provides for excellent recreational activities.
