7. Self\r
Self by Mark Quinn used a resource that doesnt show up in too many works of art. If youre not feeling a tad nauseous now, you might feel that way after I tell you he made this sculpture out of his own blood. Nine pints or 4.5 liters was taken out of his body, then frozen, and then he sculpted it look like himself! If that doesnt seem unconventional enough, he ually does this one time every five years in order to track his own health and aging. He might be healthier not taking out large quantities of blood. Despite his shocking art, he manages to be a big success and a best seller in the artworld.\r

6. Giant Yellow Teddy Bear\r
Swiss Artist Urs Fischer had a unique idea in order to make New York City a little more artistic. This yellow teddy bear is in front of the Seagram Building on Park Avenue and was temporarily on display. This was ually a giant bronze sculpture that weighed over 35 thousand pounds and was 23 feet tall. It sold at a private auction for a large amount of money. A lot of New Yorkers found it to be quite interesting and cuddly. It attred quite a bit of attention while it was up but was a cool concept. \r

5. Piss Christ\r
Despite its religious iconography, a name like piss christ is a surefire way to send many into outrage. The artwork by Andres Serrano displayed a photograph of a crucifix submerged under the artists urine which many found extremely disrespectful. So many were outraged that even the US senators debated on whether our tax dollars should go toward public art funding. The photo was even burned by a group of French Catholics in Avignon. Although you may think it was a cool color without knowing the truth, Serrano intended to use the image to display the hypocrisy of those who use Christ as a way twist his words in order to benefit themselves. Do you think the artist went too far on this one?\r

4. Madame X\r
Normally people wouldnt find anything wrong with this image painted by John Singer Sargent, completed in 1884 but people at that time had a serious problem with it. This portrait of a upper class French aristocrat, Virginie Amelie Gautreau ended up shocking the world. With people of that era being much more conservative than they are now, they believed that she was indeed too underdressed and her skin was so pale it was thought to be morbid. He corrected the original which had a fallen strap which caused an uproar but that wasnt enough! He just drew her like she was and people werent happy.\r

3. Myra\r
Myra is a portrait of an infamous child murderer. Not only should child murderers not be immortalized with large portraits but they shouldnt be hung in museums. Myra Hindley was an English serial killer, guilty of the rapes and murders of 5 children. She even drowned a close friend when she was 15. This was exhibited in the Royal Academy of Art in London 1997. Whats even creepier about this is that the portrait is made up entirely of handprints of children! Protesters threw eggs at the portrait on the first day it was out. Hindley even sent letters from prison to have it removed! It just wasnt meant to be. \r

2. Sculpture of the Sea\r
In Perth, Australia, an artist made a wave that would strike fear into any courageous surfer. She probably scared any preteen girl in the process as well. This wave is made completely out of naked Barbie dolls. Belgian Artist Annette Thas submitted this during the Perth beach sculpture competition and won her 4,500 dollars in the process. She used 3,000 naked barbie dolls and it probably wouldnt be the ideal place to relax in the shade on the beach. Somehow her inspiration had something to do with environmental concerns and childhood memories. She might have had some skeletons in the closet shes not discussing publicly. \r

1. Dismaland Exhibition\r
This art exhibition was constructed in secret on the seaside resort city of Somerset, England. Basically if you went to disneyland on opposite day, this is what youre going to get. Tickets were in high demand and the theme park had an eerily depressing tone to it, shocking anyone who went. Banksy was the mastermind behind the project and it seems like his objective was to bring some realism to the idea of Disneyland. Everything was constructed basically to leave you feeling like you were in a communist prison of some sort that was trying to have fun. Cinderellas carriage falls over, birds attack people on benches and loan offices are right next to playgrounds! At least the kids wont get too disappointed if you dont take them there.
