Dog Finds Heroin Worth $85,000 Buried In Family's Backyard

An Oregon dog is being credited for an unusual discovery.

A golden retriever in Oregon has been named a lifetime honorary member of the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics K-9 unit.
The dog, Kenyon, was awarded the designation after digging up an $85,000 heroin stash.
In a report posted to Facebook, the sheriff’s office notes that the amazing discovery was made at the beginning of August as Kenyon was digging in his backyard.
According to the post, the dog's owners “…thought Kenyon had located a time capsule buried by the previous homeowners and for posterity sake they video-taped themselves opening it. Once opened, they quickly learned it was not a time capsule but more likely some type of controlled substance. Kenyon’s owners then contacted law enforcement and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office arrived and identified the substance as over 15 ounces of black tar heroin.”
While presenting the canine with a special citation ribbon, Sheriff Tim Svenson commented, “Opioid addiction and overdose deaths are on the rise and with the help of Kenyon this large quantity of heroin is removed from our community.”
