As Coast Guard Revives Arctic Diving, 2 Divers Honored Who Died There in 2006

The US Coast Guard conducted its first Arctic shipboard dive operation on July 29, the first time since two Coast Guard divers died 11 years ago.According to a press release, after an ice dive in the Arctic Ocean on August 17, 2006, that killed Lt. Jessica Hill and Petty Officer 2nd Class Stephen Duque the Coast Guard reviewed its training and procedures.The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy held a memorial to honor the two divers during its Arctic patrol before conducting a historic dive with a team of Coast Guard and US Navy personnel, re-establishing the Arctic diving program.Video of the operation shows divers jumping into the water and underwater footage in the Arctic Ocean.
