Dan Abrams, ABC News' legal analyst, thinks that the days of special counsel Robert Mueller, the person running the Russia investigation, are numbered.
His prediction came on Thursday morning, just one day after President Trump spoke with the New York Times and made a number of disparaging comments about the U.S. Justice Department.
Among them was drawing a red line on Mueller’s investigation into Russian matters, saying that an inquiry into the Trump family’s non-Russian related finances would be a step too far.
In an appearance on ABC News' 'Good Morning America,' Abrams said, “I think within a hundred days the president is going to fire Robert Mueller…While the president can’t fire him himself, he can certainly order someone else to end up firing him from the Justice Department.”
He continued, “These are not the comments you make when you are expecting this to be a long and difficult investigation. It’s not to say that the president committed a crime and, therefore, he’s going to fire Robert Mueller. I just think these comments he’s making are making it clear he’s had enough of this investigation.”
President Trump has time and time again said the investigation into Russia’s efforts to sway the 2016 election in his favor is a “witch hunt.”
He has also denied that any collusion between his campaign and Russia took place.
