Caracas: Tale of Two Cities
Pensioners are suffering the consequences of months of violent opposition roadblocks and blockades in Venezuela. Faced with no transportation Thursday during a forced "strike" by the opposition in the mostly well-to-do east side of Caracas, elderly people had to walk for several miles to stand in line to collect their pensions. In a "Tale of Two Cities," the working-class neighborhoods in the west of Caracas, Venezuela, are conducting business as usual Thursday during what the opposition called a "strike." Meanwhile, in the mainly affluent areas in the east of the city, opposition supporters are setting up roadblocks and impeding transportation for Venezuelans.
