Topless Femen protesters interrupted Woody Allen’s jazz band concert at the Elbenfilharmonien Concert Hall in Hamburg, Germany, on July 11 to bring attention to accusations of sexual assault made in 2014 by Allen’s daughter, Dylan Farrow. In an open letter published by the New York Times in February of 2014, Farrow alleges that Allen sexually abused her regularly as a child. The protesters had quotes from the open letter painted on their bodies. In their Facebook post, Femen Germany states: "[Two women] ran on stage with their bodies which were covered in quotes from his daughter’s open letter in which she talks about the sexual abuse she experienced through her father woody allen. To remind the world and the Jazz fans sitting in the audience that he is not just the neurotic and charming director, musician and actor but also seems to like sticking his fingers into his daughters. If a perpetrator is a much celebrated so – called artist genius, then the supposed social value of the creative is more than the statements of women who are “only” women and daughters the “possession”, even if the accused is an important part of the canon of the international
Film history, its cultural and social status is therefore inviolable…. Violence against women is not to be ignored, is not tolerable and not excusable, even if the accused is called Woody Allen."Allen has denied the allegations repeatedly, starting in 1993. Evaluations of the allegations, conducted by third parties, are inconclusive. Credit: Twitter/Lars Fetköter via Storyful, Lübecker Nachrichten
