A man in Algiers, Algeria was jailed for child abuse after dangling a young boy out of a 15th story window, reports Al Arabiya.
The BBC notes that he took a photo of the boy being held only by the back of the shirt, posted it to Facebook on Sunday, and wrote, “1,000 likes or I will drop him.”
Many who saw the image called authorities, and the man, an unnamed relative of the child, was taken into custody.
He asserted at his hearing that others had altered the photo, and the boy was actually safe inside the barriers of a balcony.
The child’s father asked for leniency, saying the man had no ill intent.
A judge said on Monday that the photo clearly shows the child was in danger and sentenced the man to 2 years in prison.
