NORTH SUMATRA, INDONESIA — A careless 16-year-old burglar in Indonesia failed utterly at burglary on June 9 when he fell asleep in his victims house, which led to a chain of events culminating in a moment of richly-deserved street justice.

Dede, the 16-year-old villain in our story, broke into a home in the town of Kisaran in north Sumatra around 11am, while the owner was out.

He quickly set about plundering the house of a laptop, cellphone and other valuables.

But as Dede was set to make his getaway, he realized the many people out on the street made leaving simply too risky, and so decided to wait until the coast was clear.

But as day turned to dusk, Dede became tired and drifted off to sleep in a bedroom.

Before Dede awoke, a man named Marudin had arrived home to find his place ransacked.

A panicked Dede sought refuge behind the bedroom door. As Marudin man entered the room Dede attacked, striking him in the head with a hammer repeatedly until he stopped moving.

But Marudin’s screams had alerted his neighbors. Dede tried to run for it, but villagers quickly caught up and took him down in a storm of fists.

Police arrived to the scene of the citizen’s arrest and took Dee in.

The extent of Marudin’s injuries have not been detailed in any media or police reports.
