The process helps them estimate grey and white matter loss in the brain, a sign of the aging process. Researchers found that subjects with an older “brain age” than their actual age were more likely to struggle with physical activities and to die early. The researchers hope that their technique could one day be used to advise at-risk patients to change their lifestyle or start a course of treatment.
