Maarata Camp Resident Narrowly Avoids Deadly Airstrikes South of Idlib

At least six people were killed and 40 others were wounded on April 26 after a series of airstrikes targeted the Idlib provincial Maarata Camp, home to approximately 3,000 internally-displaced Syrians from Hama, Idlib, and Aleppo.One resident of the camp captured the moment of the explosion, which left at least 130 families homeless. In conversations with Storyful, Muhammad, a local resident originally from Hama, claimed parachute rockets were used in the airstrikes. While Storyful could not independently confirm their use in the Maarata Camp airstrikes, White Helmet rescuers told local opposition media outlets they believed parachute rockets were used in the air raids as well.Many of the wounded were transported to Maarat al-Numan National Hospital, one of the major medical hubs in southern Idlib. It served as a primary treatment center for victims of the Khan Shaykhun suspected chemical attack on April 5 and was itself the target of airstrikes on April 2.Opposition activists in northern Syria said additional airstrikes were carried out in the nearby towns of Khan Shaykhun, Jarjinaz, Kafr Sijna, Aabideen, Hish, and Maarshurin.
