According to his publicist on Wednesday, director Jonathan Demme has passed away at the age of 73. Demme, who was best known for helming the films 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Philadelphia', was reportedly suffering from esophageal cancer. His publicist, Annalee Paulo, added in a statement that he died in his home state of New York surrounded by family. Demme's other notable movies include the 2008 independent drama, "Rachel Getting Married," and 2004's "The Manchurian Candidate.
