Tesla's new cars, the Model S hatchback and Model X crossover, have received a low rating from Consumer Reports for a lack of autonomous emergency braking. The new Tesla models lack AEB because the company has added its own hardware suite to its vehicles. While the "Hardware 2.0" update promised to eventually have autonomy, many cars left the factory with disabled safety systems. Once AEB is enabled, Consumer Reports said it will reevalute its ratings of the Model S and Model X.
