Southern California's beaches will soon be gone

Southern California’s coastline could be “completely eroded” by the end of the century, according to a new study. In a study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research, between 31 and 67 percent of beaches along the coastline will be washed away by 2100 thanks to climate change. Researchers from the study collected data from 1995 to 2010 to measure small changes in elevation using GPS and LIDAR technology. They wrote that if the sea levels rise by two meters, then two-thirds of Southern California’s beaches will be eroded. If the beaches were to disappear, flooding will become more common and severe in the surrounding neighborhoods.
